Sulfur Protocol

“Onion’s arthritis healing power comes from its sulfur compounds, vitamin C, and the flavonoid quercetin. Sulfur is a critical component of healthy cartilage—and the sulfur compounds in onions have been shown to significantly drive down inflammation by inhibiting the enzymes directly responsible for joint inflammation. Healthy joints need sufficient blood levels of sulfur, so it isn't surprising that people with arthritis are frequently deficient in it. Researchers analyzing the amount of sulfur in fingernails found that arthritis sufferers have far less of it than people who don’t have arthritis. "Overcooking vegetables, including cabbage, is one of the best ways I know to rob vegetables of their nutrient benefits; when it comes to cabbage this includes its sulfur-related benefits. I recommend about five minutes (at most) for the steaming or "Healthy Sautéing" of raw cabbage. Prior to cooking, I recommend about the five-minute waiting period to allow sulfur-related changes to occur in the freshly chopped cabbage.”   WHF

There are several dozen sulfur-containing derivatives of the amino acid cysteine found in cabbage and an equivalent number of associated sulfoxides as well. Other sulfur-containing (thiol) molecules are formed when cabbage is cooked. While some of these compounds are definitely volatile and lost during cooking, or over time after the cabbage has been chopped, not all are removed.”   WHF

     

 We require Sulfur to live. Sulfur is used to build proteins and detoxify many substances. A diet high in meat and animal products may supply too MUCH sulfur and result in the loss of calcium and an acidic ph. A diet low in meat and animal products may not supply enough Sulfur. Suboptimal Sulfur levels can be a problem for many people. This may result in suboptimal detoxification because sulfur is a key element in the sulfation and methylation detoxification pathways.

 Sulfur is found in meat and animal products, fresh uncooked, unprocessed foods, cruciferous vegetables. legumes, onions, garlic, cabbage, and brussel sprouts.

Epsom Salt is an excellent inexpensive source of both magnesium (See Magnesium Protocol) and sulfur.

Sulforaphane Properties

 Sulforaphane is but one of the sulfur products contained in vast amounts in cruciferous vegetables.

    

Sulfur and Gene Expression

Gene expression is ESSENTIAL and it requires sulfur.

Sulfur is essential for both prevention and treatment for both osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.

Proteoglycans form a matrix through the joint collagen and are essential as they hold many times their own weight of water, which both lubricates and nourishes the joint. An essential component of proteoglycans is sulfur. If you are low on sulfur Doctor Stephanie Seneff PhD posits your body may steal sulfur from your joints for more critical uses thus contributing to arthritis.

    

Sulfur and Cancer

Since sulfur plays such a critical part in detoxification it only makes sense to supply it in copious amounts for cancer prevention and treatment. Since sulfur is acidic you must assure your basic body state by compensating by eating basic foods.

    

Skin Cancer, CVD, Sunshine, Sulfur and Vitamin D

Sulfur plays a critical role in protecting your skin to include your DNA as well as your heart and cardio vascular system.

     

Sulfur is Found Mostly in Animal Products

"Sulfur is derived almost exclusively from animal protein such as fish and high-quality (organic and/or grass-fed/pastured) beef and poultry. Meat and fish are considered "complete" as they contain all the sulfur-containing amino acids you need to produce new protein. IMO if you do not eat red meat often Please make sure you eat some other animal products such as eggs, an excellent food.  Lacking meat or animal products you should assure a good sulfur source in your diet such as found in some raw unprocessed foods and MSM.

Doctor Stephanie Seneff PhD states your heart requires cholesterol sulfate to function. This cholesterol sulfate is created in your skin by sunshine or in your blood stream or arterial plaque. The aortic artery, feeding blood into your heart is often the site of arterial plaque. IMO this indicates you are not getting enough sun and may have excess homocysteine in your blood.

Some sulfur is obtained from cysteine resulting from the converted homocysteine. If the homocysteine is not converted this may result in your heart running low on  the critical cholesterol sulfate.

MSM a Great Sulfur Source

MSM (See MSM Protocol) supplies high quality sulfur. I try to take 3 grams of MSM five or so days a week and LOTS when I am having a detoxification problem. Now with  the radiation detoxification scare I am taking it about every day.
