Glucosamine Protocol

  

IMO we all need to start using glucosamine sulfate prophylactically about the age of 40 or so

   

“Glucosamine is as effective for arthritic pain as NSAIDs over time with fewer reported side effects. It is frequently slower to act (6) but the effect continues after cessation of treatment (7).” Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center

“The commonly prescribed treatment for arthritis painkillers such as acetaminophen (Tylenol), aspirin, and stronger non-steroidal antiinflammatory drugs or NSAIDs, such as indomethacin and ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil, Aleve) that can cause ulcers, gastrointestinal bleeding and kidney damage. Even worse few people realize these recommended painkillers actually tend to destroy cartilage and discourage the production of new cartilage according to recent Italian evidence. The common palliative not only does not address the underlying cause of arthritis but actually makes it worse. Most people are not aware what is happening to them.” Jean Carper

In Europe patients with arthritis are routinely given glucosamine and chondroitin to stimulate the growth of new cartilage, stemming the progression of osteoarthritis and even reversing it.  Some American doctors and patients are now using these nutrients with incredible success.” Jean Carper

“Glucosamine has been the ‘drug of choice” for treating osteoarthritis in Portugal, Spain and Italy since the early 1980s.” Jean Carper

“In one Italian study investigators found that glucosamine reduced overall symptoms of chronic osteoarthritis by 80% after only twenty one days of supplementation, improvement was noticeable in seven days. One quarter of the patients became symptom free after three weeks of treatment.” Giustinian Hospital, Venice

“In a placebo controlled double blind study of patients with arthritis of the knee 80 to 100 percent of those given glucosamine improved, usually within two weeks,” National Orthopedic Hospital, Manila, Philippines

“Eighty patients hospitalized with flare-ups of osteoarthritis took either 1,500 mg of glucosamine or a dummy pill. Physicians rated glucosamine about twice as effective as t he placebo with 72% of glucosamine takers judged “excellent or good” after three weeks, about 20% were free of pain and other symptoms. At the conclusion of the trial the cartilage of all patients was examined with a microscope. The cartilage of placebo takers displayed the typical cavities and rough fibrous surfaces characteristic of severe osteoarthritis. The cartilage of the glucosamine takers showed smooth cartilage surfaces. ” University of Pavia, Italy

“Research in Europe has consistently found that glucosamine was equal to or better than the drugs typically used in the USA for arthritis pain relief, mainly ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin or Nuprin). Typically at the two week mark the drugs showed better pain relief but after eight weeks the glucosamine group had an average 300% lower pain score than the ibuprofen users.” Jean Carper

“In a large nine month study at several medical centers 252 doctors compared glucosamine sulfate 1,500 mg daily with other common treatments in 1,506 osteoarthritis patients. Glucosamine surpassed anti-inflammation agents, injectible cartilage extracts, vitamins and all other oral agents. The glucosamine brought improvement to 95% of subjects even many who had not responded to any other medical treatment.” Portugal Study

“Glucosamine should help treat any condition that involve repair of cartilage and joints including osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, invertebral disc conditions, chondromalacia, tendinitis, bursitis, postsurgical repair of traumatic injury to joints and tenosynovitis. Healthy Joint Cartilage Requires

Glucosamine is a natural body product produced by you body for your joints and other purposes. You can take glucosamine as a supplement.

Glucosamine is a major component of your joint proteoglycans. Glucosamine is a key factor in determining how many proteoglycans are produced. Glucosamine has been shown to speed up production of both proteoglycans and collagen and it helps keep cartilage from breaking down. Because it is stimulating cartilage production and thus increasing the distance between bones glucosamine also reduces joint pain and inflammation. The Glucosamine Sulfate form is the form of Glucosamine most often used in tests showing good results. This is because sulfur is an essential joint component. Glucosamine supplements usually take about one to two months to show results. Many natural health practitioners believe glucosamine is the first treatment one should use for arthritis.

Glucosamine has been the “drug of choice” used by the medical profession for treating osteoarthritis in Portugal, Spain and Italy since the early 1980s. Glucosamine relives joint pain by rebuilding stiff and eroded joint tissue. Glucosamine is very effective if used when arthritis first starts to bother you. The longer you wait the less effective it becomes. IMO we all need to start using glucosamine sulfate prophylactically about the age of 40 or so.

Reading the above research reveals what is happening when glucosamine is administered against drugs in arthritis tests. The drugs work faster because they deaden the pain. The glucosamine helps slowly rebuild joint tissue and after a couple months far surpasses the drugs for pain relief because it has addressed the source of the arthritis pain.

I take one gram of Glucosamine Sulfate along with chondroitin sulfate (See Chondroitin Protocol) about three times a week and more often when I have sore joints (See Osteoarthritis Protection Protocol). If you have sore joints and yellow urine (See Water Amount Protocol) your urine is telling you something.
