If you have any of the three conditions above IMO you MUST add a level teaspoon of cinnamon to your daily tea or something you usually eat EVERYDAY. If you do not have any of the three conditions above IMO you MUST add a level teaspoon of cinnamon to your daily tea or something you usually eat EVERYDAY. Prevent, prevent, prevent. The cinnamon improves insulin's performance and thus you will produce LESS insulin; one of the secrets to a healthy old age.

     In a trial Cinnamon, one-fourth of a teaspoon twice daily, significantly, lowered the subjects' blood sugar (about 30%), Triglycerides, LDL, and total cholesterol.

   There are many types of cinnamon; the cinnamon used in most clinical trials has been Cinnamomum Verum which is grown in Ceylon. If you are diabetic IMO you should obtain this type in its water-soluble form. If you take more than one teaspoon of cinnamon per day or are diabetic or prediabetic use the water-soluble verum form. This water-soluble form has had the impurities found in most ground cinnamon removed. These impurities in small amounts are harmless but you want to remove them if you consume more than one level teaspoon of cinnamon a day. I can tell you from bad experience that two or more heaping teaspoons of common cinnamon can, over time, OVERLY thin your blood.

The water-soluble form of Cinnamon is also better absorbed.

One of the most talked about benefits of cinnamon relates to type 2 diabetes. A study published in the journal Diabetes Care found that half a teaspoon of cinnamon a day significantly reduces blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes. It also reduces triglyceride, LDL cholesterol, and total cholesterol levels among this group.

     

Cinnamon and Other Problems

"Cinnamon is also effective against Candida albicans the fungus that causes most cases of vaginal [and other] yeast infections. In labatory tests, cinnamon extracts were able to stop the growth of strains of C. albicans resistant to fluconazole the medication commonly used to treat yeast infections."   Healing Spices

“Saurabh Khasnavis and Kalipada Pahan, PhD, of Rush University Medical Center, studied the effects of the spice in a mouse model of Parkinson’s disease. They found that when cinnamon is metabolized into sodium benzoate in the blood and brain, the loss of beneficial proteins known as Parkin and DJ-1 was halted, while neurons that produce dopamine, a neurotransmitter that is reduced in Parkinson’s, were protected. Motor function, which can be significantly impaired by the disease, was improved in animals that received cinnamon. Please be careful if you wish to use more than one teaspoon of common cinnamon a day. I have personal experience here; I was taking about two teaspoons a day often and experienced an over thinning of my blood perhaps because I was also taking MANY other things that thinned my blood. You need to be careful about your blood viscosity and cinnamon is a powerful blood conditioning tool that must be used with care.

You can make your own water soluble form of cinnamon by flooding a quart of finely ground common cinnamon in water and using a teaspoon of the liquid from time to time.

Health warnings on Cinnamon. Cinnamon can raise your blood pressure. I try to take my 1/4 teaspoon early in the morning.
