as Adapted to Balance Protocol

    

"Dizziness/disequilibrium is an extremely common symptom that may be associated with pathology in almost all body systems."   Balance Disorder   Note you will probably not see it this way NOW but this could prove to be a blessing in the end

     

"Some balance disorders are caused by problems in the inner ear. The part of the inner ear that is responsible for balance is the vestibular system, also known as the labyrinth. A condition called labyrinthitis occurs when the labyrinth becomes infected or swollen. It is typically accompanied by vertigo and imbalance. Upper respiratory infections, other viral infections, and, less commonly, bacterial infections can also lead to labyrinthitis."   Note a mild subclinical infection of ANY sort here or elsewhere could account for balance problems

"Some diseases of the circulatory system, such as stroke, can cause dizziness and other balance problems."   Note Most people over 70 have had at least one TIA. a TIA stroke could cause balance problems. HBOT could help repair the TIA

"Check with your doctor if you notice a problem while taking a medication."   Note what medications are you taking? The Statins and other anti-cholesterol and other medications can cause balance problems

"Balance disorders can be signs of other health problems, such as an ear infection, stroke, or multiple sclerosis. In some cases, you can help treat a balance disorder by seeking medical treatment for the illness that is causing the disorder."

"However, effective options for patients with gait and balance disorders include exercise and physical therapy."   Note this has vast potential particularly if the exercise is used in very UNCONVENTIONAL ways. I think of SHAKING UP (physically as well as other ways) the locus of any physical balance problems 

"Most changes in gait that occur in older adults are related to underlying medical conditions, particularly as conditions increase in severity, and should not be viewed as merely an inevitable consequence of aging."   Note contrary to common belief, perversely this offers great  hope as most underlying "medical" problems have relatively simple to implement solutions. The hard part is identifying the core problem and the non-ending PROPAGANDA of the Medical Industry

However, most balance problems result from issues in your balance end-organ in the inner ear (vestibular system).”   Balance problems

      

Medical Issues Impacting Balance

"The Mayo Clinic says Ramsay Hunt Syndrome is also known as herpes zoster oticus. The symptoms are similar to shingles, including a nasty rash, weakness, hearing loss, and ear pain. The same source goes on to say it can affect the “facial, auditory and vestibular nerves near one of your ears.” So who’s at risk? WebMD explains that it usually originates from a shingles virus that affects the facial nerve. On top of all this, it also has a big impact on balance and can cause vertigo or tinnitus".   Note  BINGO Here is a strong candidate John given your history, here is another virus associated cause

“Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV). BPPV occurs when calcium crystals in your inner ear which help control your balance — are dislodged from their normal positions and move elsewhere in the inner ear. BPPV is the most common cause of vertigo in adults. You might experience a spinning sensation when turning in bed or tilting your head back to look up.”   Balance problems   Note BINGO

"Vestibular neuritis. This inflammatory disorder, probably caused by a virus, can affect the nerves in the balance portion of your inner ear. Symptoms are often severe and persistent, and include nausea and difficulty walking. Symptoms can last several days and gradually improve without treatment."   Note here is another virus associated cause

"Ramsay Hunt syndrome. Also known as herpes zoster oticus, this condition occurs when a shingles-like infection affects the facial, auditory and vestibular nerves near one of your ears. You might experience vertigo, ear pain, facial weakness and hearing loss"   Note here is another virus associated cause

Head injury and many medicines may also lead to balance problems. Check with your doctor if you notice a problem while taking a medication. Ask if other medications can be used instead. If not, ask if the dosage can be safely reduced. Sometimes it cannot. However, your doctor will help you get the medication you need while trying to reduce unwanted side effects. "   Balance Problems and Disorders    Note here is another virus associated cause

"Issues originating in the nervous system can be the culprits of many postural and balance problems. For instance, a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis (MS), Parkinson’s disease, stroke, or other ataxia-related disorders (atrophy of the brain’s cerebellum cells) often experience a decline in muscle control in the legs and arms, resulting in loss of balance, disturbed gait, and decreasing posture, coordination, and equilibrium. Parkinson’s disease has a huge impact on balance and coordination because it affects the “substantia nigra” which is the part of the brain that produces dopamine, which is what allows us to perform smooth and coordinated muscle movements. “In PD, the cells of the substantia nigra start to die. When this happens, dopamine levels are reduced. When they have dropped 60 to 80 percent, symptoms of PD start to appear,” Healthline.   Note I assume you have ruled out all of the above

"What could possibly cause someone standing squarely on firm ground to feel like they’ve just jumped on a moving roller coaster? One cause may be problems affecting the inner part of our ears, a condition known as benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, or BPPV. That may not sound like your typical cause of something like vertigo, but when calcium particles — otherwise known as canaliths — build up in the ear canal, it can result in the brain becoming confused about the way our head is positioned and the relation between our physical standing and the world around us. In short, the buildup of calcium in the inner ear can actually lead to a highly problematic disconnect between our body and brain, leading to vertigo. As for explaining why BPPV emerges, doctors still aren’t sure, though it becomes more likely as one grows in age."  Causes and Treatments of Vertigo

"Multiple Sclerosis is an autoimmune disease that affects the entire nervous system, including the brain and spinal cord. “The disease attacks myelin, the protective covering of the nerves, causing inflammation and often damaging the myelin,” writes the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada. So, what’s so important about the myelin? Well for starters it’s responsible for transmitting impulses through nerve fibres and any damage could have a major impact. In particular, any damage to the cerebellum, an important part of the brain, could affect a person’s balance and lead to a lack of stability or limb control. One of the first signs of MS is loss of balance or numbness on one side of the body."   Health Conditions That Affect Balance

This protocol was originally written to solve the problem of a disintegrating ability of a 70 year old male to maintain balance while walking and at other times. The problem had persisted for years and had not been solved or ameliorated by years of excellent medical care.

Normally I proceed by determining the probable problem CAUSE or CAUSES and going from there. I have never worked on a health problem of completely UNKNOWN cause(s). This problem requires a different approach to be developed and I must say opens up a VAST new area for me.

I knew absolutely nothing medically about balance and it seems to be a rather esoteric specialty; with very many possible causes; even if I came up to speed on the known medical balance information I could probably not do better than the pros had done,

I decided to approach the problem in the following manner. What well know nutritional deficiencies and problems does an elderly man face that could POSSIBLY be causing this balance problem? Correcting EACH of these problems/deficiencies could POSSIBILY correct the balance problem. IN ANY CASE all these corrective actions are SALUBRIOUS and will improve the health of the patient even if they do not solve his balance problem.

I will list the actions to be taken in the order of IMO the probability of the action correcting or partially correcting the balance problem; coupled with the EASE of implementing the possibly correcting action.

DO NOW First all the vitamins and Minerals (take a good multi-mineral with around 80 minerals) in more than adequate amounts should be assured. A lot of simple salubrious, possibly corrective, FOODS and supplements should be taken simply for the ease of implementation.

    

DO NOW   Anti-Infective Actions

A sub-clinical infection of some sort may exist anywhere in the body and could be causing balance problems. A C Reactive Protein test is required. Making SURE your Anti-Infective Vitamins are MORE than SUFFICIENT is called for.

   

Vitamin C

Vitamin C in effective amounts will get rid of any virus or bacteria. However some intractable infections (parasitic et al) may require many 10s of GRAMS of Vitamin C/day to completely clear. Since Vitamin C is less toxic than water this should not be a problem. Dose Vitamin C to bowel tolerance. in addition IMO at least 2 or 3 grams of Liposomal Vitamin C/day should be used in addition to the oral.

If this was my problem I would arrange IV Vitamin C at  up to 100 Grams/day if the professional administering the IV would go there. I would do this once or twice a week.

Diving to 10 feet should shake up a lot of balance associated parts of your body; this may help your balance.

    

Lithium

Lithium  is a trace mineral you may lack; I take a little from time to time, Lithium is worth taking as a supplement. Dosing is individual. You only usually only need a few milligrams a week IMO. I take about 5 mg/month.
