Lower Back Protocol

    

IMO your weak stomach muscles is the chief problem with MOST lower back pain

Lower Back Pain

If your stomach muscles become weaker than your lower back muscles your lower back will almost always give you problems. IMO your weak stomach muscles is the chief problem with MOST lower back pain. Simple exercises to strengthen your stomach and trunk is most of the solution to lower back pain IMO. When my back is hurting I find I have not done any sit-ups for weeks and start back in slowly working up to a couple hundred a day; by then my back pain is GONE.

Doing 100 or more sit-ups every day helps to keep my lower back mostly in shape but being human I often forget until reminded by my back, then I must do hundreds/day for a few weeks to catch up.

  

Lower Back Exercises

I have found the cause of a lot of my hip and lower back pain is over tight hamstring muscles. I have had this problem all my life so I always start with a hamstring stretch. When I can get to where I can touch my toes fairly easily I know my hamstrings are somewhat loose.

Water

Dehydration can cause back pain along with dozens and dozens of other pains and problems. Drink Water!

    

Ease Into All Exercise

If your back is real bad simple low load stretching exercises may be a good warm up or all the exercise you can do to start. A gentle walking program is all you may be able to handle at first. Once you get your walking up to a few miles you will be ready for sit-ups. Start low, go slow.

Walking daily is a great way to keep lower back pain off your radar.

Lower Back Pain Exercises - Ache - Stretching

Be sure to keep your legs bent at about a 90 degree angle for the sit-ups you do. Straight legs put a lot of stress on your lower back. Go SMOOTHLY; no jerking up. Your lower back should feel completely relaxed with absolutely NO PAIN. Stop immediately with any back pain during exercise and regroup.

How to Do a Sit-Up

        

No Surgery or Drugs

Experimental studies show that these drugs inhibit cartilage synthesis and accelerate cartilage destruction. Steroids are the most effective anti-inflammatory agent. However, they can also cause extensive damage to chondrocytes in long-term use. In addition, chronic use of strong steroids leads to conditions that mimic Cushing's Syndrome, with a number of adverse age-accelerating consequences.”  Doctor Michael Lam MD

Please do not go under the knife or take the very toxic and pernicious steroids or other dangerous drugs, at least until you give an exercise program a year, with perhaps the help of a professional trainer and/or a good naturopathic sports doctor. Back surgery often makes a bad situation worse and steroids taken for more than a few days can EAT your tissues.

     

Stay on Top of Your Back

A bum lower back is a lifetime curse and IMO a few hundreds of thousands sit-ups is not bad prophylactic insurance or treatment.
