LDL Protocol

“Sit down before fact as a little child, be prepared to give up every preconceived notion, follow humbly wherever and to whatever abysses nature leads, or you will learn nothing.”   Thomas Huxley, Note please do this and "LDL is the BAD Cholesterol" becomes the scam it is

"When we refer to the oxidation of LDL, we refer primarily to the oxidation of the phospholipids and protein at the surface of the LDL particle rather than the cholesterol within its core.”   Cholesterol and Stroke

BOTTOM LINE: At least three grams of vitamin C daily, antioxidants and continuous good levels of all the B vitamins and vitamin E will remove much of the risk currently attributed to “Bad Cholesterol”. None of your basic body mechanisms are "Bad".

"LDL is often referred to as the “bad cholesterol”. LDL however is not cholesterol. LDL is a combination of a fat and a protein that acts as a carrier for cholesterol and other fats in the blood stream.”   Life Extension

"What if you were to learn that every day, 25 percent of your calories came from a poison, disguised as a food? And what if you discovered that this chemical imposter was responsible for your insulin resistance and weight gain? And elevated blood pressure. And elevated triglycerides and LDL. And depletion of vitamins and minerals. And even gout, heart disease and liver damage? What if you were to discover that this toxic substance had been dumped into your food in gradually increasing quantities for the last thirty years, with the full knowledge and blessings of the American Heart Association, the American Medical Association, the USDA and the FDA?      Doctor Robert H. Lustig MD  UCSF        Start of series, NOTE You MUST watch this, Note please start your LDL program by eliminating sugar/HFCS from your diet

“No tightly controlled clinical trial has ever conclusively demonstrated that LDL cholesterol reductions can prevent cardiovascular disease or increase longevity.” Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons, Vol 10, No. 3, Fall 2005, by Anthony Colpo

“In a major study when Subjects ate 41% of their calories as fat most of it olive oil their LDL dropped more than when they ate 20% of their calories as fat. HDL rose on the olive oil and dropped on the low fat diet.” Jean Carper

“In a landmark study one group of healthy volunteers got 40% of their calories as monounsaturated Olive oil a day. The other group ate regular safflower oil low in monounsaturates. The LDL of the monounsaturated fat olive oil eaters was only about half as likely to become oxidized and thus able to clog arteries.” Doctor Daniel Steinberg University of California

“Monkeys fed a very high fat diet and low levels of antioxidants vitamins C and E had severe arterial blockage. When these same monkeys had vitamin E added to their diet their arterial blockage dropped by one third. Adding some vitamin C along with the vitamin E to their diet for a couple of years reversed their arterial blockage by 8 to 33 percent.” Anthony J. Verlangieri Ph, D. University of Mississippi Atherosclerosis Research Center

“When people lowered their saturated fat intake from 15% to 6% of calories their Lipoprotein(a) rose by 15%.”  Henry Ginsberg M.D. Columbia University, Note elevated Lp(a) is a strong marker for CVD

“Taking 800 IU of vitamin E daily for three months lowered LDL cholesterol oxidation by 40%. It’s very clear that vitamin E is the most potent antioxidant against LDL oxidation. Anyone with a family history of heart disease would be foolish not to take vitamin E.”  Ishwarlal Jialal, University of Texas

“Cholesterol can act as an antioxidant if you have let your mineral and vitamin antioxidant levels fall too low. High levels of oxidized cholesterol are found in LDL and HDL transport packets when low levels of food antioxidants are present.” Udo Erasmus

“In reality, oxidative stress from a high sugar environment is the biggest trigger factor for increased cholesterol production in the body. Simple logic dictates that control of oxidative stress and sugar imbalances will automatically normalize the blood cholesterol level. And indeed it does. Looking at the broader picture, one can easily surmise that the culprit of many degenerative diseases, including high cholesterol, premature aging, and arthrosclerosis, rest with the imbalance of two simple elements - oxygen and sugar. Oxidative stress, from excessive free radical damage in the oxygen respiratory chain, damages vascular walls.  This leads to the excessive production of LDL cholesterol by the liver as the body tries to repair the "damaged vessels" which are undetectable by current laboratory measurements.”      Doctor Michael Lam MD

“Oxidation of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) is a primary initiating event in the development of atherosclerosis. LDL oxidation occurs when oxidants such as peroxynitrite radical, iron ascorbate, and copper ascorbate modify LDL particles. Once LDL is oxidized, it can no longer be recognized by LDL receptors, but instead is targeted by scavenger receptors on macro-phages, leading to the formation of lipid-filled foam cells observed in atherosclerotic lesions.Life Extension

"What makes high levels of triglycerides so dangerous is their shrinking of the average LDL particle size, making the LDL more likely to enter the artery wall and possibly begin the atherosclerosis process." Doctor Michael Ozner MD

"LDL cholesterol transports EFAs into your cells. Any drug that artificially lowers cholesterol ALSO lowers transport of cancer fighting EFAs and can increase your risk of contracting cancer!" Doctor Brian Peskin PhD

"The almond diet led to a significant decrease in body fat by 1%, total cholesterol by 8%, and LDL cholesterol by 13%. Most importantly, researchers found that inclusion of almonds decreased blood glucose and insulin and inflammation. Alpha-Tocopherol or vitamin E levels in the blood increased, as well as the resistance of LDL cholesterol against oxidation, when tissues were tested in a laboratory environment."  Almonds found highly protective for Diabetics

"Since LA is an essential fatty acid, the form in which it is ingested is critical. In the past several decades, processed foods—in particular, frozen foods and restaurant cooking oils—have increasingly incorporated trans fats and other unhealthy fats and oils. Moreover, when heated in air, the LA in these oils changes to hydroperoxides, which are biochemically damaging to the body. This results in less functional LA for incorporation into cell membranes." Doctor Brian Peskin PhD, Note LA is omega 6 EFA

"LDL-C, the transport vehicle for PEFA delivery into the cell, will transport any kind of LA—defective or not—into cells, including oxidized or trans entities. So, while statins do reduce the amount of LDL-C, thereby automatically reducing the amount of nonfunctional parent omega-6 from processed food that reaches cell membranes, they simultaneously lower the transport of vital oxygenating functional PEFAs into cells. In fact, over a 24-week period in which patients were given 40 mg daily of simvastatin, mean serum omega-3 levels dropped 34%, and omega-6 levels dropped 28%; both highly significant amounts."   Doctor Brian Peskin PhD, Note PEFA is parent EFA the unprocessed Whole food source of EFA, Note these losses border on cancer causing; the defective LA will also build less functional endothelial cells vulnerable to injury and plaque initiation

"Ascorbate has been shown to be an effective water-soluble antioxidant for LDL by itself, as well as playing a synergistic role with a-tocopherol."  Increased amounts of b-carotene in the LDL may counteract any protective effect that a-tocopherol may exert, Note synthetic beta carotene was used

“Cholesterol is not the bad guy. I've said this for years. What's important is what your body does with the cholesterol. When cholesterol oxidizes, it promotes significant inflammation and is very atherogenic. LDL cholesterol is extremely vulnerable to oxidation.”   Doctor Robert Rowen MD

"Nicotinic acid (Niacin) is the most potent treatment clinically available for lowering LDL and VLDL and raising HDL."  Digby

"Niacin raises HDL levels which promotes removal of cholesterol from blood vessel walls. Niacin also mediates anti-inflammatory effects in blood vessel walls." Life Extension

"Cocoa flavanols improve endothelial function by enhancing nitric oxide bioactivity,36 increasing blood flow,36 reducing the tendency of blood to clot,37 promoting already normal blood pressure levels,38 and helping LDL resist oxidation, which may contribute to the buildup of atherosclerotic plaque in artery walls.39 In a controlled human study, six weeks of cocoa consumption increased brachial artery hyperemic blood flow by up to 76% compared with baseline values.40 In a recent randomized controlled trial, healthy individuals with above-optimal blood pressure took small amounts of dark chocolate containing 30 mg of polyphenols as part of a usual diet. The cocoa polyphenols in the chocolate efficiently improved their blood pressure readings as well as plasma markers of vasodilative nitric oxide.41 The age-related depletion of nitric oxide is considered a major impediment to healthy arterial blood flow."      Life Extension

Oxidized LDL is a key player in the initiation and progression of atherosclerosis. Thousands of studies now reveal how Oxidized LDL contributes to the entire atherosclerotic process from start to finish.”    Life Extension

"Decreased CoQ10 levels make circulating lipoproteins such as LDL more vulnerable to oxidative damage adding CVD to the renal load. Subjects with low CoQ10 received vitamins C and E along with vitamin B2 for two months before being supplemented with two months of CoQ10 therapy and saw their CoQ10 levels quadruple."   Life Extension

"Oxidative modification of LDL is thought to play a key role in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis. Consumption of nutrients rich in phenolic antioxidants has been shown to be associated with attenuation of development of atherosclerosis. Coronary artery disease develops as a result of various risk factors, including increased plasma LDL levels, as well as LDL modifications, such as oxidation or aggregation. Consumption of phenolic flavonoids in the diet has been shown to be inversely associated with morbidity and mortality from coronary heart disease (Hertog et al. 1993  and 1995 , Knekt et al. 1996 , Muldoon and Kritchevsky 1996 ). This study was undertaken to investigate the ex vivo effect of standardized ginger extract on the development of atherosclerosis in apolipoprotein E-deficient (E0) mice, in relation to plasma cholesterol levels and the resistance of their LDL to oxidation and aggregation."   Ginger Extract Consumption Reduces Plasma Cholesterol, Inhibits LDL Oxidation and Attenuates Development of Atherosclerosis in Atherosclerotic, Apolipoprotein E-Deficient Mice ,Note WOW consumption of ginger inhibited the progression of aortic atherosclerosis in mice whose aorta is much like yours. This was associated with a significant reduction in the plasma and LDL cholesterol levels, with a parallel reduction in the oxidative response of macrophages, and reduced LDL atherogenic modifications (oxidation and aggregation). Folks this puts ginger on your MUST HAVE list IMO.

"In this way [sun exposure], your skin will produce cholesterol sulfate, which will then flow freely through the blood—not packaged up inside LDL—and therefore your liver doesn't have to make so much LDL. So the LDL goes down. In fact... there is a complete inverse relationship between sunlight and cardiovascular disease – the more sunlight, the less cardiovascular disease."   Doctor Stephanie Seneff PhD

For more Research on LDL (See LDL Protocol Research Section)

All fats travel in your blood stream in a Packet

Since fats cannot be placed directly into your blood your body wraps a coating of lipoprotein around every fat particle it transports via your blood stream. The lipoprotein barrier keeps the fat inside the packet from mixing with your blood.

LDL is a Packet

"An LDL particle carries cholesterol and triglycerides through the blood within a membrane made of lipid and protein. The membrane consists primarily of many phospholipids interwoven with one large protein molecule; although most of the cholesterol is contained within the core of the particle, a small amount is also distributed throughout the membrane. The amino acids within the protein and the unsaturated fatty acids within the phospholipids are vulnerable to oxidation; they are also protected by certain vitamins, polyphenols and other antioxidants that are carried within the lipoprotein. When we refer to the oxidation of LDL, we refer primarily to the oxidation of the phospholipids and protein at the surface of the particle rather than the cholesterol within its core.”   Cholesterol and Stroke   .

LDL is the Low-Density Lipoprotein packet your body uses to distribute via your bloodstream essential and other fats together with fat-soluble vitamins and other fat related substances to your cells.

“LDL-Cholesterol” is Tragically Misnamed

“LDL is often referred to as the “bad cholesterol”. LDL however is not cholesterol. LDL is a combination of a fat and a protein that acts as a carrier for cholesterol and other fats in the blood stream.” Life Extension

We often call this Low-Density Lipoprotein packet “LDL-Cholesterol” but IMO this is a terrible misnomer. Your LDL Packets transport much more than cholesterol. The heart of the great “Cholesterol Scam” is that LDL Cholesterol is misleading; LDL is not cholesterol. Most doctors are just as scammed as the public.  LDL packets in a healthy body will normally contain about 50% cholesterol. When your body is dealing with many problems the amount of cholesterol in your LDL packets will normally rise. Yes I realize the professionals understand that LDL-cholesterol refers to the cholesterol faction of the LDL packet HOWEVER the layman is being misled.

LDL Packets Contain

Thus artificially reducing the number of healthy LDL Packets is not a good thing as your LDL Packet is transporting essential nutrients throughout your body. Should the the numerous fats in your LDL packets oxidize or harden it may lead to Artherosclerosis. Keeping a good amount of vitamin E and other fat soluble antioxidants in those LDL packets will insure none of the fats in the LDL packets oxidize.

The Beginning of Atherosclerosis

More importantly these fat soluble antioxidants, vitamin C and other antioxidants will insure the LDL packet lipoprotein membrane itself does not oxidize. It is the oxidization of the LDL membrane that often begins the atherosclerotic process. If we prevent this from happening we may prevent MUCH CVD.

Where is the “Bad Cholesterol”?

“Cholesterol is not the bad guy. I've said this for years. What's important is what your body does with the cholesterol. When cholesterol oxidizes, it promotes significant inflammation and is very atherogenic. LDL cholesterol is extremely vulnerable to oxidation.”   Doctor Robert Rowen MD

In a healthy body there is no such thing as bad cholesterol. Your LDL Packet is not “bad cholesterol”. In fact LDL is not even cholesterol.  The number of healthy LDL Packets in your system is the exact amount your healthy body has determined it requires to move your current fat load to each of your 100 trillion cells or to heal your body. The average SIZE of your LDL particles is important as the smaller VLDL is easier to enter your artery wall and possibly begin the atherosclerosis process. Keeping your triglyceride (See Triglyceride Protocol) level low will help keep your LDL particle size up.

The amount of oxidized fats in those LDL Packets is important and also important is a lack of vitamins C and E. It is a lack of vitamins E and C, antioxidants and the number of OXIDIZED LDL packets not the number of healthy LDL Packets that are causes of much Artherosclerosis.

If your body is unhealthy your LDL may be abnormally elevated because your LDL is being used to heal your body thus the elevated LDL is a SYMPTOM of a problem(s) and artificially lowering it with drugs is not the answer. Lowering it by fixing the underlying problem is the answer.
