Inflammation Protection Protocol

IMO we all must CONSTANTLY actively protect against chronic inflammation

“Low level inflammation is involved with virtually every undesirable consequence of aging.” Life Extension

“Several human diseases are inflammatory in nature, including asthma, Crohn's disease, rheumatoid arthritis, polymyalgia rheumatica, tendonitis, bursitis, laryngitis, gingivitis, gastritis, otitis, celiac disease (gluten intolerance), diverticulitis (infection of the diverticula in the colon), and inflammatory bowel disease. Additionally, a number of chronic diseases have inflammatory components, such as atherosclerosis, obesity, diabetes, cancer, and perhaps even Alzheimer's disease.” Victoria J. Drake, PhD

“Vitamin D reverses inflammatory changes associated with age-related memory impairment.” Biochem Soc Trans. 2005 Aug;33(Pt 4):573-7.

“Reducing dietary vegetable oils and increasing the omega-3 fats EPA and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) by consuming fatty fish such as salmon, mackerel, and sardines can benefit individuals experiencing chronic inflammatory conditions.” Adam O et al

“The study showed that black current oil is a potentially effective treatment for rheumatoid arthritis.” Leventhal et al, Note black current oil is rich in GLA

“GLA induces the production of the anti-inflammatory Pe1.” Das et al

“Omega 3 EFA help to suppress the formation of undesirable inflammatory PE2 and promote the synthesis of beneficial PE3.” Kelley et al

“Over consumption of high Glycemic Index foods leading to a high level of insulin can produce a high level of inflammatory arachidonic acid.” Kreisberg et al

“While chronic inflammation often symptomatically manifests as arthritis, it is also involved in diseases as diverse as atherosclerosis, heart valve dysfunction, congestive heart failure, Alzheimer’s, and even cancer.” Life Extension

“In healthy humans and in people with rheumatoid arthritis fish oil suppresses several inflammatory factors by up to 90%.” James et al

“Dietary components that provide antioxidant effects may contribute to the treatment of inflammatory/autoimmune diseases.” Amarakoon et al

“The possibility that lactoferrin limits the autodestructive inflammatory response presents a new alternative for the future management of systematic inflammation.” Kruzel et al

“Because herbs and spices have a very low calorie content and are relatively inexpensive they’re a great way to get a lot of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory power into your diet.” Doctor James Hargrove

“Anti-inflammation agents and antioxidants represent a revolutionary third great wave in cardiovascular disease PREVENTION.”    Doctor Deepak Bhatt, Cleveland Clinic

“CoQ10 shows promise in offsetting the inflammation that accompanies gum disease. CoQ10 offers benefits used topically and taken internally.”  Life Extension

“Research indicates that the presence in blood of indicators of inflammation are strong predictors for who will develop CHD or have a cardiac-related death.” Lindahl et al

“Some evidence suggests that blood levels of CRP may be a stronger predictor of heart disease than levels of LDL-C.” Ridker et al

“Seven days of dietary omega 3 oil effectively reduced inflammatory cytokine formation and thromboxane A2 production by platelets in rats.”  Ikeda et al 1995, Note thromboxane A2 promotes abnormal blood clotting

“There is minimum concentration of MSM that must be maintained to preserve normal body function and structure. In addition to its detoxifying potential MSM has potential for allergy, hyperactivity, cancer prevention, and inflammation” Prater, 1999

“Fish oils are particularly effective in reducing inflammation and can be of great benefit to people suffering from rheumatoid arthritis or ulcerative colitis. Daily supplementation with as little as 2.7 grams of EPA and 1.8 grams of DHA can markedly reduce the number of tender joints and increase the time before fatigue sets in. Some studies have also noted a decrease in morning stiffness and at least two clinical trials concluded that arthritis patients who took fish oils could eliminate or sharply reduce their use of NSAIDs and other arthritis drugs.” Hans R. Larsen, MSc ChE

“Anti-inflammatory medicines like Motrin, Advil, aspirin, Clinoril, Voltaren, prednisone and cortisone all inhibit the healing process of soft tissues. The long term detrimental effects far outweigh the temporary positive effect of decreased pain.” Doctor Ross Hauser MD

“C-reactive protein, or CRP, is produced in the liver and has emerged as a strong predictor of clinical events of cardiovascular diseases, such as heart attacks and stroke, even in cases where cholesterol levels may be normal.  For this reason, CRP assays may become a routine part of blood tests for determining CVD risk.  CRP levels in the blood are normally undetectable or very low; high levels are strongly associated with inflammation.” Weijian Zhang, MD PhD

“Infection follows inflammation. Some antigen has been identified and the body has mobilized its forces - the white cells - to wall off the area. The invader is attacked and many white cells are killed in the process. Pus is simply the accumulation of dead white cells that have done their job. Limited infection is not an emergency. It simply means that the body's defenses are working.” The Doctor Within

“Absorption from oral ingestion peaks at 10 hours, while detectable levels in the plasma are still apparent after 48 hours. Bromelain's use in OA arises from its anti-inflammatory properties, which include: a. Inhibition of the biosynthesis of pro-inflammatory prostaglandins. b. Fibrinolysis activity via the plasminogen-plasmin system. Bromelain breaks down fibrin by stimulating the production of plasmin, which breaks down fibrin, thereby preventing fibrin from producing localized swelling. Plasmin also blocks the formation of pro-inflammatory compounds. Bromelain's ability to reduce inflammation has been well documented in a variety of experimental models and clinical studies.” Doctor Michael Lam MD

“There are over 15 types of Collagen and the predominant type of collagen that is present in joints and cartilage is type II. Type II collagen is derived from chicken sternum cartilage from chicks 6-8 weeks old. It contains the greatest number of anti-inflammatory and joints supporting proteoglycan including glucosamine sulfate.” Doctor Michael Lam MD, Note eat this collagen from your chicken carcasses

“Aging is characterized by inflammation, glycation and mitochondrial decay.” Life Extension

"Low level inflammation is involved with virtually every undesirable consequence of aging.” Life Extension

“Over consumption of high Glycemic Index foods leading to a high level of insulin can produce a high level of inflammatory arachidonic acid.” Kreisberg et al

“Vitamin D reverses inflammatory changes associated with age-related memory impairment.” Biochem Soc Trans. 2005 Aug;33(Pt 4):573-7

"How can exercise and fish oil be more effective for depression than anti-depressant drugs? Could it be because they are both potent anti-inflammatories? Could it be that depression is a low-grade inflammatory condition of the brain." Doctor Mark Hyman MD

"We now understand that inflammation is involved in virtually every chronic human diseases and many acute ones - having an inflammatory modulator like quercetin in our armamentarium is likely to prove very useful indeed." Life Extension

"The findings reveal that low vitamin D levels negatively impact inflammation and immune response, even in healthy women, Increased inflammation normally is found in people with obesity or chronic diseases; a small decrease in vitamin D levels may aggravate symptoms in people who are sick." Doctor Catherine Peterson, University of Missouri

"Aging men are plagued with declining testosterone levels while their estrogen remains the same or even increases. This imbalance often sets the stage for a host of chronic inflammatory disorders while increasing the amount of abdominal adiposity." Life Extension

"Excess abdominal fat that grows around internal belly organs, visceral fat, is linked with a host of undesirable conditions including increased inflammation and elevated risks of type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease." Life Extension

"Curcumin has been avidly studied in recent years due to it's apparent ability to suppress cancer at various stages among numerous other beneficial activities, including anti-inflammatory activity." Doctor Michael Ozner MD

"In several well controlled human studies boswellia has been shown to be effective in alleviating various chronic inflammatory disorders." Life Extension

"It is now apparent that many traditional spices in addition to adding interest to our food can provide vital anti-inflammatory and antioxidant function that is having an impact on how we think about chronic illness and aging." Aggarwal et al

"Far from being an "inevitable" consequence of aging, we now understand that cognitive decline and memory deficits are the predictable results of a lifetime of oxidative and inflammatory injury that damages brain cells' ability to communicate with each other." Life Extension

“Excessive sugar intake can also contribute to free radical damage. White and brown sugars, and even sugar from so-called natural sources, such as fruit and fruit juices, maple syrup and honey, get converted into triglycerides by the liver and are subject to free radical damage. These damaged fats then promptly attack your arteries and directly contribute to cardiovascular disease. Additionally, cancer and tumor cells feed off of sugar. It is for this reason that excessive sugar intake correlates very strongly with heart disease, cancer and a host of other ailments.” Stephen Byrnes

"One of the hallmarks of obesity is chronic low-grade inflammation, elevated levels of inflammatory markers. It turns out that these inflammatory markers are actually produced, in part, by fat cells - especially abdominal fat cells." Doctor Michael Ozner MD

"Atherosclerosis is not a bland lipid storage disease it is a chronic inflammatory disease." Doctor Peter Libby

"What we have learned is that inflammation is involved in all stages of coronary artery disease, from the initiation of the plaque in the artery wall, to the plaque's progression and rupture, to the clot that blocks blood flow to the heart muscle resulting in a heart attack." Doctor Michael Ozner MD

"The omega 3 fatty acids DHA and EPA act like natural anti-inflammatory compounds in the body. Recent research has revealed that these essential nutrients are converted by the body to newly found compounds which put the brakes on inflammation before it spirals out of control." Doctor Michael Ozner MD

"With enzyme therapy pain stops quickly and the duration of inflammation is rapidly diminished. In addition wounds heal rapidly with reduced scar formation." Doctor Anthony Cichoke

"The process of inflammation is governed by numerous enzymes, a considerable number of which are the body's own proteolytic enzymes. They eliminate the inflammatory debris and initiate the restitution.  This process is supported and accelerated by administration of oral enzymes." Doctor Anthony Cichoke

"What you eat and how much you exercise are the most important factors governing inflammation." Doctor Mark Hyman MD

"Immune cells have a vitamin D receptor, and that the cells activate vitamin D as a response to infection. What vitamin D really does is play a sentinel role. First, it is used by immune cells to fight the virus. Then, it helps temper the overall immune response and limit inflammation."  Doctor Michael Holick, Vitamin D Researcher

"Intriguing compounds found in familiar fruits, vegetables, and spices help fight harmful inflammation. And, in doing that, these phytochemicals the resveratrol in red wine or the catechins in green, white, and black teas, for instance-may also reduce our risk of diseases associated with chronic inflammation, including cancer, atherosclerosis, and diabetes." Life Extension

"Inflammation is a major risk factor for heart disease, and periodontal disease may increase the inflammation level throughout the body. Since several studies have shown that patients with periodontal disease have an increased risk for cardiovascular disease, we felt it was important to develop clinical recommendations for our respective specialties. Therefore, you will now see cardiologists and periodontists joining forces to help our patients." Consensus Paper AJC, AAP

"Anti-inflammatory and antioxidant supplements that may help protect against cancer include curcumin, green tea and gamma tocopherol." Doctor Eric Braverman MD

"Substantial evidence that omega-6 oils powerfully induce inflammation and immune suppression when consumed in large amounts. Those eating a Western diet are consuming 50-fold higher amounts of this type of oil (called linoleic acid) than needed for health. These oils include corn, safflower, sunflower, canola, peanut and soybean oils. So, we see that the average child is exposed to a number of substances in their food and environment that can also alter immunity, making them not only more susceptible to natural infection, but also to vaccine complications."  Doctor Russell Blaylock MD, Note there is no contradiction between what Doctors Peskin and Blaylock are saying. Only eat undenatured omega 6 in amounts no greater than two times your undenatured omega 3 and both will be happy

"In May, the American Academy of Environmental Medicine concluded that animal studies have demonstrated a causal relationship between GM foods and infertility, accelerated aging, dysfunctional insulin regulation, changes in major organs and the gastrointestinal system, and immune problems such as asthma, allergies, and inflammation."

"Dietary capsaicin lowered fasting glucose, insulin and leptin levels and markedly reduced the impairment of glucose tolerance in overweight mice, Our data suggest that dietary capsaicin may reduce obesity-induced glucose intolerance by not only suppressing inflammatory responses but also enhancing fatty acid oxidation in adipose tissue and/or liver, both of which are important peripheral tissues affecting insulin resistance,"    Rina Yu University of Ulsan South Korea, Note leptin helps put on fat

"In Dr. Joseph's studies, oxidative stress markers were only modestly reduced by these antioxidant rich foods. The polyphenols in berry fruit like strawberries may be responsible for other mechanisms including enhanced neuronal communication and reduced stress signals due to enhanced neuroprotective stress shock proteins. According to Dr. Joseph, you can protect yourself against the two major villains of aging, oxidation and inflammation, by including the following foods in your diet regularly:  Strawberries, Blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, Walnuts.  Fish , Turmeric.”   Polyphenols slow aging

"Not only has spirulina been shown to improve circulation and maintain healthy blood pressure, but Japanese scientists have discovered that it can also help detoxify the blood and maintain energy levels. Important to note in the area of prevention, spirulina is richly supplied with the blue pigment phycocyanin, a biliprotein which has been shown to support normal cell growth,"   Doctor Al Sears MD

"Scientists now believe that fat cells are major drivers of inflammation both locally and systematically controlling a wide variety of metabolic functions and feedback mechanisms in the human body that lead to cardiovascular disease, diabetes and other ailments."   Life Extension

"Cranberries constituents may also help reduce inflammation in the gingival or gum tissues which could offer protection against peritonitis."   Life Extension

"In clinical studies short intervals of calorie restriction have reduced systemic inflammation, an underlying factor of so many chronic degenerative diseases."   Life Extension, Note one day fast, one meal fast come on miss a few meals!

"in the study, researchers infected mice with salmonella. Each of the mice had different levels of LDL cholesterol. The researchers divided the mice into groups of 20 animals or more and assessed their daily survival rate over 21 days. There was a striking difference. The mice with high levels (seven times normal) of "bad" LDL had only a 5% death rate from this bad germ. The mice with "normal" LDL all died. The mice with the high LDL also had 99-99.9% fewer organisms in their vital organs. The researchers found that the protection came from LDL's ability to prevent the bacteria from attaching to and invading host cells. This prevented the bug's ability to invade. There's a moral to this story. There is no "bad" natural chemical or cholesterol in your body if God puts it there. Quite possibly, if you have high LDL, your body might know that it's under bacterial stress. If so, it could be making more LDL in its wisdom to thwart invaders.”    Doctor Robert Rowen MD

Acute Inflammation is normally Healthy

“Inflammation is the immune response of tissues due to bodily injury. Clinical characteristics of acute inflammation include pain, heat, swelling, and redness at the site of the injury. Inflammation may also involve loss of function of the involved tissues. This type of acute inflammation is normally a localized, protective response following trauma or infection. However, if the agent causing the inflammation persists for a prolonged period of time, the inflammation becomes chronic. Acute inflammation is a normal process that protects and heals the body following physical injury or infection.” Victoria J. Drake, PhD

“Research shows that RICE treatment actually impairs healing and contributes to chronic ligament and tendon relaxation. Any treatment that impairs soft tissue healing increases the risk of incomplete ligament and tendon repair and predisposes the structure to future injury and becoming a source of chronic pain.” Doctor Ross Hauser MD

“NSAIDs inhibit the synthesis of proteoglycans that are being made in the injured joint by the chondrocytes to heal the articular cartilage damage. The only result that can be obtained from NSAIDs in a patient with articular damage is a guarantee to produce more damage.” Doctor Ross Hauser

"The most powerful , immediate and dramatic results you can achieve for reducing systemic inflammation is to eliminate the most common food allergens in your diet gluten, dairy, eggs, yeast, corn, peanuts, citrus and occasionally soy." Doctor Mark Hyman

"Relaxing is anti-inflammatory. Stimulating your vagus nerve sends acetylcholine throughout your body, not only relaxing you but also turning down the fires of inflammation."  Doctor Mark Hyman, Note laughing stimulates your vagus nerve

"Researchers from the University of Newcastle in New South Wales report that levels of high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (CRP), a marker of inflammation reported to be an independent predictor of cardiovascular-related events, are inversely related to blood levels of DHA and EPA."  Swanson Vitamins, Note less DHA more inflammation
