Fibrinogen Protocol

     

"High levels of fibrinogen predispose a person to coronary and cerebral artery disease even when other known risk factors are normal." Life Extension

“Excessive homocysteine blocks the natural breakdown of fibrinogen by inhibiting the production of plasminogen activator.” Midoriakawa et al

“Heart disease patients were given either 1000 mg or 2000 mg of vitamin C a day to access the effects of vitamin C on the breakdown of fibrinogen. At 1000 mg there was no effect. At 2000 mg a day of vitamin C however there was a 27% decrease in the platelet-aggregation index, a 12% reduction in cholesterol and a 45% increase in fibrinolytic activity.” Bordia, Note another good reason to shoot for at least 3 grams of vitamin C a day

While there are over 3000 enzymes in the body and there are more than 20 enzymes involved in the coagulation cascade that creates blood clots, there is only one enzyme that Mother Nature has provided to the human body that can dissolve the fibrin and break up blood clots. This enzyme is called plasmin. Unfortunately, the body's production of this decline with age. In addition to its decreased production with age, fibrinogen levels also rises 25mg/dl per decade in healthy people. In other words, as we age, our plasmin level reduces while our fibrinogen level rises. The resulting risk of cardiac accidents goes up.” Doctor Michael Lam MD

Fibrinogen is a healthy protein that circulates in your blood and is turned into the blood clot producing fibrin when required by the action of enzymes in response to an injury. Excess fibrinogen is often produced in response to inflammation, so make sure you clean up any inflammation sources See Inflammation Protocol.

Too much fibrinogen in your blood can lead to dangerous abnormal arterial clotting. Having too much fibrinogen in your blood is an independent risk factor for many diseases. As we grow older many of us will see our fibrinogen levels slowly creep up. We have to actively be aware of this and counter it with our prophylactic actions by taking many of these anti-excessive-fibrinogen foods, vitamins, minerals and supplements often. Our good friend exercise will also lower fibrinogen.

    

Homocysteine is a Common factor in Excess Fibrinogen

Since many of us  (have a problem with high homocysteine) our fibrinogen will tend to be elevated also. The B vitamins are the simple solution.
