DHEA Protocol
IMO it is VERY important to use every means
to bring up your DHEA levels after you pass 40 or so
“Magnesium chloride, especially when applied transdermally, can
gradually increase DHEA in a natural way” Dr. Norman Shealy “It is commonly reported that decreasing DHEA levels are inevitable with aging. But I have seen healthy, active eighty-year-olds with optimal DHEA levels and I have seen stressed-out thirty-year-olds with low or deficient levels of DHEA. Very low DHEA levels often precede a major illness by several years. Insulin, blood sugar, and cortisone all cause increased secretion of DHEA into urine. Prolonged stress, which may raise insulin, blood sugar and cortisol, eventually leads to low DHEA blood levels.” Doctor Norman Shealy “DHEA has been shown to
possess multitargeted antioxidant activity, including effectiveness against
glucose-induced lipid peroxidation. This protects the kidneys against oxidative
damage and impairment of cell growth, suggesting effectiveness in overcoming
chronic renal complications associated with diabetes.” Brighardello et al 2000 “Animal studies
indicate that DHEA may have chemopreventive effects (5) (6), may block the development of
tumors (7) and enhance immune response
following hepatitis (8) and influenza (9) vaccinations. DHEA may play a role
in increasing immune response in acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) (2). In clinical trials, DHEA has been
shown to be effective in treating major depression (10), schizophrenia induced anxiety (11), systematic lupus erythematosus (12), osteoporosis (13), erectile dysfunction (14) and Addison's disease (15) (16) (17) (16) (18).” “DHEA is a major marker for
age and health. Its major effect in a coping person is anti-stress, meaning
that the increased cortisone produced by stress is subsequently normally
brought back down to baseline by a rise in DHEA.” Doctor Norman Shealy “Decreases in DHEA levels have been linked to a number of
chronic and degenerative diseases including cancer, coronary artery disease,
depression, stress disorders and neurological dysfunctioning.” Straub et al “DHEA-S may have substantial therapeutic benefits for the
treatment of ischemic stroke.” Lapchak et al 2000 “Levels of estradiol
were higher and levels of DHEA were lower in rheumatoid arthritis patients
compared to subjects not suffering from chronic inflammation.”
Tengstrand et al “In animal models
pregnenolone and DHEA have been shown to profoundly stimulate the healing of
neurologic injury.” Li H et al
“Individuals with
macular degeneration tend to have low blood levels of the hormone DHEA as well
as a higher risk of cardiovascular mortality.” “DHEA is the most abundant
of all steroids and is released from the adrenal glands. DHEA is involved in
the manufacturing of testosterone, estrogen, progesterone and corticosteroids.
The decline of DHEA parallels that of growth hormone. By age 65, the body makes
only 10-20% of DHEA that was made at age 20. It has been shown in animal
studies to act as an agent of anti-obesity, anti-cancer, anti-autoimmune
disease, anti-stress, anti-infectious disease. In other words, it is an all
around anti-aging drug. It may also boost the function of the brain as the
brain tissue contains 6 times more DHEA than any other tissue in the body.” Doctor
Michael Lam MD
DHEA Hormone Feedstock "Prof. Shulman found that women being treated for infertility who also received supplements of DHEA were three times more likely to conceive than women being treated without the additional drug. The results were recently published in AYALA, the journal of the Israeli Fertility Association.” DHEA for Infertility, Note this is demonstrating just how important DHEA is for ANY hormone related problem
DHEA or dehyroepiandrosterone
is a natural steroid hormone secreted by the adrenal gland, gonads and your
brain. DHEA is a key testosterone (See Testosterone Protocol) estrogen and
other steroids precursor, produced naturally by your body. As you get older
your DHEA levels usually begin to rapidly decline. By the time you reach 40
your DHEA level has fallen to less than half of its levels when you were 20; by
60 it will typically be 1/4. DHEA helps boost your testosterone levels; your
bone strength, proper insulin balance and helps keep your weight
(See
Overweight Protocol) good among other good things. Cholesterol is the feedstock
your body uses to manufacture DHEA so you want to assure its supply. Women
and men who are having problems with their bones
should have their DHEA levels checked as a low DHEA level can result in as much
as a 40-fold increase in your risk of osteoporosis.
Youthful DHEA levels help
“Magnesium
chloride, especially when applied transdermally, is reported by Doctor
Norman Shealy to gradually increase DHEA in a natural way. Doctor
Shealy has determined that when the body is presented with adequate levels of
magnesium at the cellular level, the body will begin to naturally produce DHEA
and also DHEA-S. Because of the problems with supplementing directly with DHEA,
transdermal magnesium chloride mineral therapy holds great promise for DHEA
hormonal supplementation because taking magnesium could counteract the heart
attack and stroke hazards of synthetic DHEA hormone replacement therapy.” Magnesium for Life Mark Sircus Through
the use of Magnesium Oil, women have reported complete abatement of menopausal
symptoms and some have even returned to their menstrual cycle and the possible
explanation for this is that rising magnesium levels brings up DHEA levels.
Avoid for optimal DHEA levels
To Increase DHEA
Be sure to consult your
doctor before taking supplemental DHEA. Have your
levels checked; youthful DHEA levels fall between 300 and 500
mcg/dl. If you discover your levels are low, discuss with your doctor
the best supplemental dosage and the optimum
DHEA level you want. IMO always seriously attempt to raise your
DHEA levels naturally for a good six months before using supplemental DHEA.
IMO it is VERY important to use every
means to bring up your DHEA levels after you pass 40 or so. Be very careful with DHEA supplements however they may shut down your body’s natural DHEA
production. Also by supplementing DHEA it’s possible to get too high a blood
level of DHEA which may cause you no end of serious problems. IMO find a good
integrative doctor to help and test your
levels if you must supplement DHEA. DHEA is so important for so
many functions IMO it’s worth the effort to try and get your body to produce
more DHEA. Magnesium chloride oil seems to be the best way to do this but I use
them all. I use transdermal Magnesium Chloride oil, HGH, exercise and every other indirect method to
attempt to raise my DHEA levels. Caution: Do not take this or any other hormone (See Hormone Supplements
Protocol) without researching
hormone supplementation and having your levels checked. In particular do not take supplemental hormones if
under the age of about forty. It is strongly suggested you consult with a
knowledgeable Integrative Doctor on hormone
supplementation. Women especially should consult a
knowledgeable Integrative Doctor on DHEA and all hormone
supplementation. EXCEPTIONS: Women with breast, uterine, or ovarian cancer or
men with prostate cancer should not take supplemental DHEA.
The administration of 50 mg a day of DHEA to elderly men resulted in the following immune enhancements compared to placebo. YOU only want to do this in a life threatening situation IMO.
