Coffee is the greatest source of antioxidants for the average American. I used to think this was a sorry commentary on our eating habits but perhaps it is not. The numerous powerful polyphenols in coffee can make a positive contribution to our diet. Please remember the pasteurized milk and sugar often found with the polyphenols in coffee are proven toxins. IMO if you find a way to limit the caffeine and toxins often associated with coffee, your coffee can play a strong positive role in your health.

There is evidence coffee is associated, with reduced cancer and diabetes risk; and perhaps coffee can even help lengthen your life. We do know there are strong anti-oxidants, polyphenols, chlorogenic acid, ferulic acid and other very healthful compounds in coffee. The caffeine in coffee appears to have a salubrious effect on the diseases of an aging brain.

How to Drink Your Coffee

Antioxidant Coffee

The bottom line on coffee is it appears to be a very healthful drink if you can limit or eliminate most of the usually harmful caffeine and other harmful substances such as sugar and pasteurized homogenized milk.

IMO find a water decaffeinated or low caffeine high antioxidant coffee that is made without harmful chemicals and drink most of your coffee decaffeinated; most of the benefits of coffee do not come from the caffeine.

If you eliminate the TOXIC milk and sugar with your coffee you will be maximizing the benefits. So who likes coffee black? Well if you do not, one of the low sugar nut milks and perhaps a little unrefined  black molasses may work for you.

    

Decaffeinated Coffee

If you use fresh quality coffee beans and a good Decaffeination process it appears you can eliminate 90 to 99 percent of the caffeine and still enjoy a flavorful healthy cup of coffee, several cups a day and eliminate most of the caffeine.

Decaffeinatation Processes

1) Solvent Process:  The most employed process by far. Often old coffee beans are used and over roasted to cover up the poor taste. Strong chemical solvents are used. IMO do not buy decaf produced by the Solvent process.

2) Swiss Water Process:  A chemical free gentle process that uses water to draw the caffeine out of the bean. The flavor and healthful components of the beans are preserved. This looks good. Mexico has their own water process which should also work. Check it out.

3) CO2 Process: Liquid CO2 is used and leaves no harmful residues. The flavor and healthful components of the beans are preserved. This process is considered organic.

    

Sweeten your Coffee with Stevia to Combat Metabolic Syndrome

Stevia and coffee seem to be a very healthful combination especially if you are having a problem with blood sugar and may be pre-diabetic.

   

Eat your Coffee?

It is possible that by eating the whole roasted coffee bean and not throwing out the grounds you can get a lot more of the goodies coffee has to offer. You will definitely get more fiber.

I buy some roasted coffee and often eat a few beans in the morning. I must warn you limit it. With 30 beans of caffeinated coffee I can get quite a buzz on. I usually try not to go over 20 beans or so; hard to do.

Caffeine is a drug popularly consumed in coffee, tea, soft drinks and, in smaller doses, cocoa and chocolate. Caffeine is a strong stimulator or your adrenal system and very agitating to your body. Yes it may jolt you awake but you pay dearly for this. Some people who are very sensitive to Caffeine may have trouble sleeping even if they stop drinking coffee as early as 9:00 AM. I can drink a cup of caffeinated tea in the morning without apparent problems but if I drink it on two consecutive days I have trouble sleeping the second night. One cup of coffee after 9 AM and I have trouble sleeping that night.
