Bromelain Protocol
Bromelain is a super nutrient with many
treatment and prophylactic properties please get familiar with it and use it
“Four hundred scientific
papers on bromelain’s therapeutic applications have appeared in the medical
literature. In these studies bromelain has been reported to exert a wide
variety of beneficial effects, including reducing inflammation in cases of
sports injury or trauma and prevention of swelling after trauma or surgery.”
Taussigand et al “In a study of 146
boxers, of the 74 boxers receiving bromelain in 58 all signs of bruising
cleared completely in four days. In those who did not receive bromelain
complete clearing took 8 to 10 days.” Blonstein “Acute sinusitis has also
responded to bromelain therapy. Good to excellent results were obtained in 87%
of the bromelain treated patients compared with 68% of the placebo group.” Ryan “A study was undertaken
to identify natural substances which inhibited HIV proteases. Researchers focused
on natural enzymes with low toxicity and high bioavailability. Compared to HIV
protease inhibiting drugs nineteen natural products exhibited better activity;
among the best was bromelain, it was also the most bioavailable.”
Noever “The effect of orally
administered bromelain on the reduction of swelling, bruising, healing time and
pain following various injuries and surgical procedures has been demonstrated
in numerous clinical trials.” Murray & Pizzorno “Bromelain acts in a
manner similar to a plasminogen activator to cause fibrin breakdown.”
Baghurst et al “Bromelain is a protein
digesting enzyme capable of reducing atherosclerotic plaque. Bromelain has
fibrinolytic properties. Bromelain may improve cardiac health by opposing
platelet aggregation. Bromelain is non toxic up to 10 grams per kilogram.”
Life Extension “To increase the rate
of healing and decrease the length of time the joint is swollen, protease
enzymes are very helpful. Papain and chymopapain from papaya fruit, bromelain
from pineapple and pancreatin enzyme preparations will encourage the removal of
damaged tissue thus reducing the swelling.” Christie “The secret behind Nature’s allergy remedy lies
in three natural compounds:
bromelain,
quercetin, and
vitamin C. Bromelain comes from the roots of the pineapple tree. Quercetin
is plentiful in all kinds of plants, including apples, berries, broccoli,
squash, and some nuts and seeds. And of course many fruits and vegetables
contain vitamin C. Even though there have been plenty of studies proving their
effectiveness, this “triple threat” has slipped under modern medicine’s radar
screen. I’ve been using them with great success in my practice for years.
What’s more, vitamin C and quercetin reinforce each other. Vitamin C makes
quercetin last longer, and quercetin prevents vitamin C from breaking down.” Doctor Robert J Rowen
MD, Note bromelain is often taken with
quercetin to increase the absorption of quercetin and quercetin is a component
of vitamin C “Absorption from oral ingestion peaks at 10 hours, while
detectable levels in the plasma are still apparent after 48 hours. Bromelain's
use in OA arises from its anti-inflammatory properties, which include: a.
Inhibition of the biosynthesis of pro-inflammatory prostaglandins. b.
Fibrinolysis activity via the plasminogen-plasmin system. Bromelain breaks down
fibrin by stimulating the production of plasmin, which breaks down fibrin,
thereby preventing fibrin from producing localized swelling. Plasmin also blocks
the formation of pro-inflammatory compounds. Bromelain's ability
to reduce inflammation has been well documented in a variety of experimental
models and clinical studies.” Doctor Michael Lam MD "The scientists looked at two molecules found in bromelain. One, called CCS, appears to block a protein that is defective in nearly a third of all cancers. The other, called CCZ, activates specific immune cells that are prompted to recognize and kill cancer cells. In animal studies conducted by the QIMR team, the one-two punch of CCS and CCZ was found to be effective in controlling four cancer types: lung, breast, ovarian and bowel." Bromelain and Cancer "Bromelain is effective as an alternative to both acetaminophen and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). And because it helps relieve joint pain for some arthritis patients, it provides another option for patients who previously used Vioxx or one of the other COX-2 inhibitors." Bromelain “Bromelain is a crude extract from the pineapple that contains, among other components, various closely related proteinases, demonstrating, in vitro and in vivo, antiedematous, antiinflammatory, antithrombotic and fibrinolytic activities. The active factors involved are biochemically characterized only in part. Due to its efficacy after oral administration, its safety and lack of undesired side effects, bromelain has earned growing acceptance and compliance among patients.” Bromelain: biochemistry, pharmacology and medical use"Bromelain acts as an immunomodulator by raising the impaired immunocytotoxicity of monocytes against tumor cells from patients and by inducing the production of distinct cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor-α, interleukin (Il)-1β, Il-6, and Il-8. In a recent clinical study with mammary tumor patients, these findings could be partially confirmed. Especially promising are reports on animal experiments claiming an antimetastatic efficacy and inhibition of metastasis-associated platelet aggregation as well as inhibition of growth and invasiveness of tumor cells.” Bromelain: biochemistry, pharmacology and medical use“Apparently, bromelain's antiinvasive activity does not depend on the proteolytic activity. This is also true for bromelain effects on the modulation of immune functions, its potential to eliminate burn debris and to accelerate wound healing. The claim that bromelain cannot be effective after oral administration is definitely refuted at this time.” Bromelain: biochemistry, pharmacology and medical use "The generally accepted mechanisms by which bromelain clears tissue blockage involve direct proteolysis of fibrin and activation of plasmin, a serum protease. Plasmin acts on fibrinogen (the precursor to fibrin), forming peptides which stimulate PGE1, a prostaglandin that helps maintain tissue comfort." Medical Hypothesis 1980;6:99-104.
Bromelain “Bromelain is a protein
digesting enzyme capable of reducing atherosclerotic plaque. Bromelain has
fibrinolytic properties. Bromelain may improve cardiac health by opposing
platelet aggregation. Bromelain is non toxic up to 10 grams per kilogram.”
Life Extension Bromelain an enzyme derived from raw pineapple stems, breaks down a broad spectrum of proteins, has anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory properties, anti-fibrin (See Fibrin Protocol) properties, Antibiotics and is effective over very wide pH range (See pH Protocol). Bromelain is a proteolytic (See Proteolytic Enzymes Protocol) protein-digesting enzyme (See Enzymes Protocol). Bromelain is absorbed intact through the gastrointestinal tract, with the highest concentration of bromelain being found in the blood one hour after administration. However, its proteolytic activity is rapidly deactivated by food so make sure you take it on an empty stomach. Bromelain
has anti-platelet aggregating properties so it can lower HBP and help your blood to flow freely. Bromelain has been shown in clinical
practice to be an excellent adjunctive treatment for upper respiratory problems
such as chronic bronchitis and acute sinusitis.
Bromelain is found only in Raw Pineapple Stems Almost all the Bromelain in
pineapple is found in its raw stem. Please eat this most important part of the
pineapple and don’t discard it as I did for twenty years. It’s a
little tough
to chew, throw it in a blender if required, but its flavor is extremely sweet and more
pleasing IMO. Canned or other heated pineapple contains NO enzymes including bromelain.
Excess fibrin circulating in you blood stream is a
proven cause of many serious problems “Bromelain is a protein
digesting enzyme capable of reducing atherosclerotic plaque. Bromelain has
fibrinolytic properties. Bromelain may improve cardiac health by opposing
platelet aggregation. Bromelain is non toxic up to 10 grams per kilogram.”
Life Extension “Bromelain acts in a

Bromelain taken on an empty
stomach helps to eliminate this excess fibrin which can contribute to these
conditions.
