Nuts and Seeds
Nuts and Seeds are the HEALTHIEST things you can eat IMO. Flood your life with them.
“People who ate nuts at least twice a week were much less likely to gain weight than those who almost never ate nuts.” Obesity Journal
"Nuts, seeds, legumes as well as other foods
including soybeans contain enzyme inhibitors. Inhibitors serve to keep the seed
from deteriorating until it can germinate properly. These seeds must be treated
to eliminate the inhibitors. Sprouting is the best way to kill most of the
inhibitors while keeping the enzymes from being denatured."

"The almond diet led to a significant decrease in body fat by 1%, total
cholesterol by 8%, and LDL cholesterol by 13%. Most importantly, researchers
found that inclusion of almonds decreased blood glucose and insulin and
inflammation. Alpha-Tocopherol or vitamin E levels in the blood increased, as
well as the resistance of LDL cholesterol against oxidation, when tissues were
tested in a laboratory environment."

"Not only are nuts a compact source of energy, they
also are easily stored through cold winters and hot summers, making them
available throughout the year. What's more nuts contain a number of compounds
that may help prevent heart disease and cancer."

“Unlike plant seed oils (like sesame oil) that are no longer protected by their whole food structure, seeds themselves (including sesame seeds) are fairly stable to relatively low heats. I would not hesitate to add high-quality, preferably organically grown, sesame seeds to your bread recipe. It is important, of course, to chew your bread and seeds well because non-chewed, intact sesame seeds can often be excreted without undergoing further digestion or absorption and therefore not delivering most of their health benefits.” George Mateljan WHF
"Many people needlessly shun raw nuts from their diet, believing their fat content contributes to weight gain. A new study once again puts this myth to rest, showing instead that eating nuts doesn’t lead to weight gain and may actually help you to slim down." Eating Nuts May Help You Achieve Your Ideal Weight
"Poppy seeds contain good levels of minerals like iron, copper, calcium, potassium, manganese, zinc and magnesium. Copper is utilized in the production of red blood cells. Zinc is a co-factor in many enzymes that regulate growth and development, sperm generation, digestion and nucleic acid synthesis. Potassium is an important component of cell and body fluids that helps controlling heart rate and blood pressure. Manganese is used by the body as a co-factor for the powerful anti-oxidant enzyme, superoxide dismutase.” Health benefits of poppy seeds
"Years of research back up pistachios as a healthy snack that can help you maintain good health and lower disease risk. Numerous studies have shown that pistachios have a beneficial effect on blood sugar. A 2011 paper found that pistachios eaten with a meal high in carbohydrates lowered blood glucose response. There’s evidence that pistachio consumption correlates with better weight control. A meta-analysis of 33 studies reported in 2013 compared weight outcomes of a diet including pistachios—among other nuts—against control diets. They concluded that diets enriched with nuts did not increase weight, body mass index, or waist circumference. Studies suggest that pistachios have anti-inflammatory benefits and may help lower LDL (“bad”) cholesterol when eaten as part of an overall healthy diet.3 Additionally, a 2010 study showed significantly lower triglyceride levels in subjects who ate pistachios. Pistachios contain a broad-spectrum of essential vitamins and minerals as well as protein, fiber, and an array of phytochemicals." Four Healthy Reasons to Eat Pistachios
Nuts are, with seeds, some of the very best foods for most of us. A plant will put all the nutrients required for its next generation of LIFE into its nuts and seeds. One thing the genome project has taught us is how similar many life forms are in their nutrient requirements.
One important caution is in order. Raw nuts and seeds contain phytic acid and should normally be consumed as a meal or snack by themselves as the phytic acid will keep nutrients from being absorbed. Once the nuts are soaked over night or roasted they may be eaten with other foods. For instance although raw nuts make a tasty addition to a salad don’t put them in as they will keep some of the nutrition from the salad from entering your bloodstream. Raw nuts and seeds eaten by themselves constitute a Phytic Acid (Phytic Acid) Chelation Protocol (Chelation).
FRESH raw nuts contain lots of good fats. Yes nuts are high in calories from good fats and must be consumed by the ounce not the pound but this good fat will digest SLOWLY and keep us from getting hungry for quite awhile. A few nuts make a good portable snack that will satisfy our hunger and keep us going till we eat something good again. Store away a few small packs of good nuts, on your person, in your brief case, in your car and AVOID the garbage "snacks" you can buy out of machines.
Nuts contain magnesium, copper, protein, arginine, Vitamin E, selenium and good fats among other good things. I try to eat an ounce or two of nuts most days.
